Happy Chinese New Year

Today is the first day of Chinese New Year.  It’s the Year of the Dragon.  The cycle covers a 12 year period so previous years were 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000 and now 2012.   The Year of the Dragon ranks high as a special year.  Of all the Chinese zodiac signs, being born in the Year of the Dragon is considered being most desirable.

The Dragon child or adult is considered to be perfect.  I have to admit this makes me laugh a little – my son is a “Dragon” and whilst he’s a great person…..!!

So those born under the dragon sign are known as born leaders, extremely gifted with luck and strength.  Dragons are also known to be perfectionists and resist aging.  Because of this, they strive to remain youthful throughout their lives.  The key to the Dragon personality is a free spirit who feels rules and regulations are for others.  They are an extroverted bundle of energy, gifted and utterly irrepressible, doing everything on a grand scale.  Because they are confident and fearless when it comes to challenges, they tend to succeed in their chosen fields.

Is it any wonder that many Chinese couples feel that the Year of the Dragon is the perfect year to have a child.  The earlier in the year, the stronger the child will be.  I hear that the childbirth rate in China will make a mighty jump this year.
