Monday evenings are generally kind of quiet! However, last night I was lucky enough to attend the “What’s Cookin'” demonstration at the Savory Spice Store in downtown Westfield. The Chef de Cuisine, CJ Reycraft, of my favorite Westfield restaurant, Chez Catherine, was demonstrating three dishes and a lot of skill. Working off a burner in the store, he was able to share some of his knowledge with us and correct a few misconceptions in a fun and chatty way.
Talking of fun and chatty, so was his audience. I sat next to a nice young man who was sharing the event with his mother as her birthday present. He had also been thoughtful enough to bring a couple of bottles of wine which they also poured for those around them. So as we nibbled on Steak Tartare (OK – I don’t eat meat, so I watched that portion), Seared Sea Scallops and Hibiscus Infused Creme Brulee, we also shared some wine and good company. Who knew that for $15, I could get enjoy such a delicious and wonderful couple of hours in the heart of Westfield NJ.
