Home Decorating Tips, Tricks, and Neat Ideas

Ready to decorate your most festive house yet, but need some fresh ideas and inspiration? Try out some of these ideas for a truly inspired Christmas home!

Try Some Homemade Decor

loop-1065920_1280Mix up your decor by easily remaking and remixing what you already have. Put some sparkly ornaments onto a cake stand for a bright and simple centerpiece. Coil some strings of white holiday lights into the bottom of hurricane candle holders and set on your mantlepiece for spruced-up lights. Spray an old wreath with some white paint for a snowy upgrade. If you’re feeling crafty and a little bold, you could try your hand at making your own citrus wreath to mix things up a little bit.

Set the Atmosphere

To really bring home the feeling of the holidays, make your home feel welcoming and cozy. Drape greenery around banisters, over doors and mantelpieces, and in windows to bring in a cozy feeling. Create a soft glow of light by setting tealights into frosted glasses or candleholders and grouping them together over a mantlepiece or on tables.

Don’t Forget the Little Spaces

Don’t forget those places that you might not spend as much time in and therefore often go overlooked. That means windows, entryways, walkways, and the general exterior of your house. Spruce up your entryway so visitors immediately experience that holiday vibe, or better yet, line your walkway in bright lights to bring holiday cheer to your yard. Set pine in vases in windows to bring some cheer to your windows.

Keep it Simple

Too often we get caught up in the decorating, and in using every ornament for the tree, every piece of garland or wreath or ribbon, which can lead to contrasting colors and patter and just looks tacky. Instead, pick a theme or color scheme for each room, and keep it simple. Don’t go overboard, and don’t stray from your color scheme.

Try an Organic Look

Tired of the same old bright-and-shiny? Try something totally new and go organic! Dried berries, fruits, and flowers bring a woodsy rustic look to trees. String pinecones together for a wreath or garland, and keep your colors warm.
