Somerville Real Estate
Somerville was originally formed as a Town in 1863 within a portion of Bridgewater Township in Somerset County.
Somerville was settled in colonial times by the Dutch who purchased land from the English proprietors of the colony. It was originally a sparsely populated farming community, but grew rapidly after the completion of the railroad in the 1840’s. Early industry included brick making.
Somerville still features much of its distinctive Victorian architecture especially along its Main Street. There are also other periods represented and there are plenty of National Registry sites. Originally, the center of commerce, the Borough has evolved into a destination for boutique retail – including many antique stores – and dining. There are a diverse and large selection of restaurants that draw people from the surrounding areas.
