Warren Real Estate
Warren Township is located in Somerset County. It covers an area of 19.3 square miles and has a population of approximately 15,000 people. Warren is nestled in the Watchung Mountains, less than 35 miles away from Manhattan. Warren is positioned between Route 78, 22 and 287.
Warren is named for American Revolutionary War patriot, General Joseph Warren, who was killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Originally Lenape Indians inhabited the area. In the early 1700s, European farmers settled the territory and in 1806 Warren was carved from part of surrounding towns and incorporated. Recently, the westward movement of the population in New Jersey changed Warren from a farming town to a suburban community paced for residential living.
Warren is still quite rural but is developing fast. Established neighborhoods, as well as plenty of new construction, offers single family living catering to many tastes. Warren is known for its new developments of mammoth contemporaries, alongside older more conservative homes, all constructed on lots of at least one acre. Yet with its absence of streetlights and a number of old farmhouses scattered throughout the township, Warren still retains the feel of its rural roots. The central business district offers shopping centers, offices and restaurants.
Route 78, which cuts through Warren’s northern end, has made the world a closer place. Just 25 miles from New York, the township attracts affluent corporate and self-employed residents who need access to the cities as well as the comfort of returning home to a quieter place.
The growth has spawned good schools, the high school being Watchung Hills Regional School. There are now four elementary schools to cater to the many families with young children who have moved to Warren. There is one middle school and the high school is attended by pupils from Warren, Green Brook and Long Hill Township. The high school was awarded a Blue Ribbon.
